All Students start their martial arts journey at white belt. In between each rank is a “high” belt essentially a half step in between each rank. This insures students and parents can see progress as they train through years.
Yes.. it takes years. Buckle up!
Depending on the attendance, attitude, and dedication of a student, they can be promoted more quickly.
Junior Black Belt is for students that meet the requirements of black belt but are under the age of 16. But, there are exceptions to every rule, be the exception.
Dan ranking correspond to your black belt rankings. For example, 1st Dan is often referred to as first Degree Black Belt.
To be promoted to the next Dan ranking students must be training or teaching For the amount of years equal to the rank they are applying for. (Brown/Black Belt must train for 1 year before testing for 1st degree black belt.)
The following are the Ranks and Titles and time required at their current rank before applying for testing.
1st Dan Sensei 1 year
2nd Dan Sensei 2 years
3rd Dan Sensei 3 years
4th Dan Master 4 years
5th Dan Master 5 years
6th Dan Professor 6 years
7th Dan Professor 7 years
8th Dan Grandmaster 8 years
9th Dan Grandmaster 9 years
10th Dan Soke
10th degree black belt is reserved for individuals that founded their own styles.
Some of these titles and rankings and requirements might not match the requirements of that of a traditional karate school. But this isn’t traditional karate and eventually they’ll get over that.
